You can at least negotiate with the collection agencies.
Once you go to court – there is no negotiating in their part.
You can only negotiate weather they take 10% or 25% out of your paycheck.
Going to court is expensive for these agencies, they will not give you a break then.

Again it depends on where you stay. In RSA you could be declared bankrupt, everything taken to pay the student loan* in full, and the rest will get x cents in the Rand. You’ll have a record for the rest of your life. Make haste and settle on something!!!!
