What are the various military reserves policies on paying back enlistee student loans?
Posted by: | CommentsI’d run around boot camp for a few weeks this summer to erase my student loans, then do the Reserves one-weekend-a-month thing. Who has the best deal for the least amount of work (and risk of death)?
(BTW, I’m 38, but definitely in boot-camp shape.)
I see the National Guard Reserves may be the best bet.

Should I invest in my 401k now or pay off my student loans now?

I’m 24 and have been working for about a year and a half. I have about $1k in my 401k and $23k in student loans. I recently upped my 401k contributions to 15% and have been making large payments towards my loans to pay them off asap. With the economy as it is now, should I pay more towards my loans (3.50%-5% interest) or get more in my 401k now while the funds are cheap?

What is the best plan to paying back my student loans?
Posted by: | CommentsI have $33,000 in student loan debt. I am supposed to start paying SallieMae back next month at $229 a month for 25 years at 6.8% interest. To me this doesn’t seem like much of a deal! Is there a way to lower this payment and the term of the loan? Can I get a lower interest rate? What is the best plan here to pay it off quickly but not have an outrageous monthly payment?

Can I get a debt consolidation loan with bad credit?

I would like to get a debt consolidation loan for my outstanding debt from closed credit cards, old utility bills, etc
I have student loans, but I would like to consolidate them separatley and not through another loan.
Also, I have an auto loan, would the loan be able to cover that as well?

How does a Chase Student loan work? Is it a good deal?

I’m a 4th year college student at Louisiana State University and this year I am having financial problems resulting in me probably not having a way to pay my rent at my apartment. I’ve receieved many letters from my bank (Chase) informing me about the Chase Student Loan and how I can get up $40,000 a year or something and I was curious if this was a good deal or if the Chase student loans had a bad interest rate (I don’t know what a good one is…) and other details. I have normal credit and am only 21 but I was thinking about going into Chase this week to ask them about the student loan. I’d probably need to take $5,000 out to pay rent this semester and I have 1 or 2 years left until I graduate.
I’ve been receiving Stafford loans and Pell grants thus far because my parents don’t make very much that that money covers books, students fees, etc… and I have something called T.O.P.S. which pays my tuition (it’s specific to Louisiana). Any information or suggestions is appreciated
