Does anyone know of a legitimate debt management/consolidation company?

We are in debt and I don’t want to file bankruptcy. After all I created the debt so I should pay it, but I also do not want to keep paying the minimum amount due for the rest of my life. I’m thinking of trying credit counseling and debt consolidation. Does anyone know of a good company? I tried my local credit counseling center that is through the government and they were rude and inattentive. I am in the United States. Thanks for the advice.

I have accumulated a lot of credit card debt due to an illness and loss of employment. The amounts I was paying became so large that I couldn’t afford to make the mimimum payments so I decided to seek a debt management company. This has been going on for a year, but I don’t seem to be getting anywhere because the interest rates continue to climb on the accounts I’m not currently paying on.

I am going througt debt consolidation and my credit score dropped, big time. I make plenty of cash to get a car for about $300 a month, but every bank has been turning me down. I have $5000 to put down and all I want is a $15000 vehicle. Any answer to this would be excellent, thank you!

Has anyone heard of J D H Associates from NJ? This is a debt consolidation company?

I was recently contacted by a firm identifyng themselves as J D H Associates from Timpton Falls, NJ. They offered to eliminate my credit card debt in 18 months. Their charge would be .15 on the dollar and claimed that they could get the credit card company to accept .55 for every dollar I owed. This would eliminate 30% of my debt. Has anyone dealt with this company? Can they do what they say they can? Is there a way to check out their legitimacy?

Does it matter if you hold debt through student loans or through credit cards?

I have a chance to transfer a great deal of my student loan debt to a lifetime APR on my credit card that is 4% lower. Would this have any detrimental effects on my credit?
My debt wuld stay the same, but the source would be different.

I have about $15k in credit card debt and they are slowly cancelling my cards and raising my APR so that I can’t even afford to make the minimum payments anymore. It’s a stupid cycle that is spinning out of control…
